Bajaj Chetak is BACK !!…… In electric format

Electric vehicle sector is buzzing in India. The buzz is mostly limited to four wheelers. In two wheelers, mainstream big bike makers have been absent from scene till now. This has changed today

Bajaj auto have entered into EV segment with return of its legendary brand, “CHETAK”. Yes, Chetak is back, albeit in Electric form. Today Bajaj has unveiled first e-Chetak or Chetak Urbanite.

Chetak will be officially launched in mid November and production will be ramped up in phased manner. Chetak would be launched in cities like Pune and Bangalore first given that these cities have better charging infrastructure than rest of country.           

Styling 

Chetak Urbanite follows a modern retro styling similar to vespa combining with design cues taken from the original iconic Chetak scooter. Bajaj will be offering the Urbanite Chetak with the choice of six colour options. 

Underpinnings

The front suspension is handled by a single-sided trailing arm unit that seems to have coilover setup with an exposed external spring. At the rear, it gets a monoshock, and the scooter runs disc-brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The scooter will also get regenerative braking. 

Features

Bajaj has equipped the all-new Chetak with a generous amount of equipment. It gets all-around LED lights, a digital instrument cluster, two ride modes (Eco and Sport), a reverse assist mode and Bluetooth connectivity. . On a full charge, the e-scooter will return a range on 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. Furthermore, an home-charging station will also be offered by Bajaj Auto at a nominal additional cost.

Bajaj hasn’t revealed the price yet, but the company can launch the electric Chetak at a fairly aggressive price tag of around Rs 1 lakh

Urbanite brand launch will be commemorated with the "Chetak Electric Yatra" that kicks off in New Delhi today. Participants will take 20 Chetaks through north and western India to travel approximately 3,000km, and the ride will culminate in Pune, Maharashtra.
